It's quite a yarn -> REFUGEE ESCAPES TO FIJI FROM AUSTRALIA'S ILLEGAL TRAFFICKING AND EXILE REGIME IN PNG, BUT WAS DEPORTED, JAILED AND SUBSEQUENTLY ABANDONED BY PRO "DETERRENCE" MEDIA HACKS AND "ADVOCATES"  ---> Safety and freedom is all Iranian refugee Loghman Sawari hopes for, but since being resettled in [exiled to] Papua New Guinea from Manus Island, he feels further away from both.

...

"After so long, I'm a refugee and I [still] have not been given an ID card to show people my name,” he said.

Australia ignores calls for help after natural disaster [Welcome to Country - 2/2/18]:

It has now been five days since calls for help were made and the people of the Torres Strait have once again been largely ignored by the nations media and the government.

Every year the impact of king tides is increasing throughout the Torres Strait.

The solutions are known but the government appears to be unwilling when it comes to spending money in the region which has left residents exposed to the threats of rising sea levels. ...

Asylum seekers deported from Israel to Rwanda warn those remaining: ‘Don’t come here’ [Haaretz - 2/2/18]:

... “When we came, we didn’t have anything, not a single document. I stayed here in Rwanda for a year without any documents,” says Teklesambat.

“The UNHCR office sent us to immigration. We didn’t get anything.”

He too says he never managed to find work.

“Even the locals don’t have work, so how am I going to find work as a foreigner?”

The $3,500 he received from Israel, he says, did not last him a year.

Then the UNHCR office funded an apartment and food for him and his roommates.

“After that maybe they got tired and they told us: ‘You have to find work.’ Where are we going to find work? We slept outside the UNHCR office for two months. That was in 2016. After that, what can we do? We have nothing, we have no work, we are suffering. We asked to go to a refugee camp and they didn’t let us,” he says, noting that he applied in writing several times to the Rwandan government office responsible for dealing with refugees, and never received a reply. ...

In reports about improved conditions in Moria camp, it is not always mentioned that the olive grove next to Moria is now full of tents and an estimated number of 1000 people live there, including families with children.

No heating, no facilities.

The fact that people are allowed to go to the mainland (around 400 people last week) is of course good news.

But much more needs to be done for the thousands of people who are forced to spend the winter in these unacceptable conditions. ... Lesvos Solidarity - Pikpa [28/1/18]
