United States, "allies" continue bombing Iraq and Syria
US Department of Defense [28/11/15]:
U.S. and coalition military forces have continued to attack Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in Syria and Iraq, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials reported today.
Officials reported details of the latest strikes, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports.
Strikes in Syria
Attack and remotely piloted aircraft conducted three strikes near Ayn Isa, striking an ISIL tactical unit and destroying an ISIL tactical vehicle.
Strikes in Iraq
Bomber, fighter, attack, and remotely piloted aircraft conducted 17 strikes in Iraq, coordinated with and in support of Iraq’s government:
-- Near Baghdadi, two strikes destroyed two ISIL rocket rails and damaged a third ISIL rocket rail and denied ISIL access to terrain.
-- Near Albu Hayat, one strike struck an ISIL tactical unit.
-- Near Mosul, three strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL mortar position and four ISIL fighting positions.
-- Near Ramadi, seven strikes struck two separate ISIL tactical units and destroyed an ISIL home-made explosives cache, an ISIL vehicle, an ISIL boat, an ISIL vehicle-borne bomb, two ISIL buildings, an ISIL heavy machine gun, an ISIL ammo cache, two ISIL weapons caches, and an ISIL fighting position.
-- Near Sinjar, four strikes struck three separate tactical units and destroyed two ISIL fighting positions and three ISIL vehicles.
Armed Arizona man threatens Islamic community in Upstate NY [Syracuse.com - 28/11/155]:
After being threatened on Facebook by an armed Arizona man, a Muslim community in the Catskill Mountains -- and local law enforcement officials -- are taking precautions.
In a video, Jon Ritzheimer, of Phoenix, Arizona, can be seen flashing a gun and saying he's headed to Islamberg in Upstate New York according to a report by The Watershed Post.
Islamberg is a community 45 miles southeast of Binghamton, made up of about 25 African-American Muslim families, according to the report.
The community formed in the Catskills more than 30 years ago and police officials said they've never had any trouble with the members.
Yet, Islamberg has been a target of anti-Muslim activists.
The recent threat is the second to Islamberg this year. In April, a Tennessee man was arrested when FBI agents uncovered his elaborate plot to massacre Islamberg residents. The suspect in that case is awaiting trial, according to reports.
Ritzheimer drew the FBI's attention when he posted the video on Facebook last month.
Holding a handgun in a car, Ritzheimer says he is on the way to Islamberg.
"We are driving all the way to New York to see those [expletive] at the Islamic Post who called me a [expletive] terrorist."
Ritzheimer also posted Islamberg's address on Facebook and invited "northeast patriots" to join him.
The community has a history with Ritzheimer. Its parent organization, The Muslims of America and its newspaper recently published an article calling Ritzheimer a "member of the American Taliban."
The group uses the term for "American domestic right wing extremists who personify the behavior of the Taliban," a spokesman said in a news release.
"Ritzheimer fits the bill by virtue of his orchestrated armed Mosque protests and inciting hate against Muslims," spokesman Muhammad Matthew Gardner said.
The Muslims of America called for Ritzheimer's arrest. Gardner said they were cooperating with law enforcement officials and had increased security at Islamberg.
Officials told The Watershed Post they did not believe Ritzheimer would make it to New York or carry out threats on Islamberg.

The wife of one of two Chinese dissidents forcibly deported from Thailand to China has accused Chinese officials of posing as humanitarian workers to trick the men into signing their own deportation papers.
On November 12, without informing their families, Jiang Yefei and Dong Guangping were taken from a Thai detention centre in the capital Bangkok and sent back to China.
There has been no information about either man since then.
Both were recognised as refugees by the UN and had been granted asylum by the Canadian government.
They were arrested in Thailand in late October and placed in the Immigration Detention Centre in Bangkok.
It was here that Chu Ling, the wife of Jiang Yefei, says Chinese officials visited the two men.
"They said they were from the United Nations," Chu told Al Jazeera.
"They said they were here to help them and that they must sign some papers to allow them to travel to Canada. But the document was in Thai. They signed it even though they couldn't understand the words. Later, we found out that they had signed papers agreeing to be deported back to China."
Chu said officials from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) discussed this incident with her. However, in an email to Al Jazeera, the UNHCR said it was "not aware of any such impersonation at detention centres run by the [Thailand] government". ... [Al Jazeera - 29/11/15]
Refugees on Manus make a good point
Australia's political, media and human rights establishment must now discuss whether we are willing to take this barbaric project to its natural conclusion and execute these men - and other refugee boat arrivals.
This is what the LNP, ALP, media and human rights sector want, but are too gutless to propose.
You people sicken me to the core with your "labor 4 refugees", "free the children" stunts and "better than the alternative", "deterrence" LIES.

@drobwlldiad: ... men on #manus wish to die, they pray every night for it. Please read their letter [29/11/15]:
Hello Dear Mr Malcolm Turnbull and Peter Dutton
As the refugees and asylum seekers trapped in Manus Island detention we would like to request you something different this time.
As previously we wrote and asked for help and there was no respond to our request to be freed out of detention we realised that there are no differences between us and rubish but a bunch of slaves that helped to stop the boats by living in hellish conditions. The only difference is that we are very costly for the Australian taxpayers and the politicians as our job to "stop the boats" is done.
We would like to give you some recommendations to stop the wast of this this huge amount of moneys ruining Australian's reputation and to keep the Australian boarders safe forever.
1. A navy ship that can put us all on board and dump us all in the ocean (HMAS is always available)
2. A gas chamber (DECMIL will do it with a new contract)
3. Injection of a poison (IHMS will help for this)
This is not a joke or a satire and please take it serious. We are dying in Manus gradually, every single day we are literally tortured and traumatised and there is no safe country to offer us protection as DIPB says.
Merry Christmas in advance

Refugee Action Coalition, Sydney [29/11/15]:
The Iranian asylum seeker, Reza Khestinzhad, who staged a nine hour protest on top of a the crane on Nauru on Friday (27 November), has been arrested by Nauruan police.
Reza was taken to the IHMS clinic on Friday, around 6.30pm, after he ended the protest and came down from the crane.
But this morning, Sunday, 29 November, Nauruan police arrested him at the clinic and took him to the police station, where he is being held.
Police refused to allow his sister to see him at the police station today and indicated that he would be held until at least Wednesday, although police have not said what charge, if any, he would face.
“We are extremely worried for Reza’s welfare,” said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition.
“Reza should not be in jail. The police are an extension of the Nauruan government that is doing everything it can to stifle the right to protest on Nauru, including arbitrary arrest.
“Reza’s only crime was to send a message to the world that Nauru is a prison island.”
Meanwhile, today, Sunday 29 November, a Sri Lanka asylum seeker has scaled a high tree near the family camp on Nauru.
The asylum seeker has been in the tree since 9am, Nauruan time.
The man, his wife and a daughter, have been held on Nauru for two and half years.

Aylan's family to be admitted to Canada [Ekathimerini - 28/11/15]:
Some surviving relatives of drowned Kurdish toddler Aylan Kurdi, whose beached corpse became a global symbol of the Syrian refugee crisis, will be admitted to Canada, broadcaster CBC reported Friday.
The three-year-old died after his family, sheltering in Turkey from the war in Syria, decided to make a desperate bid to reach Greece in a flimsy inflatable boat.
The sight of Aylan's body, face down on the Turkish shore, was captured by news photographers and galvanized public opinion around the world as hundreds of thousands of refugees arrived in Europe.
Aylan's mother and brother died in the same accident.
Now, according to the boy's aunt Tima Kurdi, who already lives in Canada, authorities have said Aylan's other aunt, uncle and five cousins will be granted asylum as part of a bigger package of arrivals.
“It will happen,” she told CBC. “They will bring them.”
The boy's uncle had previously made an application for refugee status at the Canadian mission in Turkey, but was refused because of incomplete documentation.
Canada is setting up an air bridge to bring in 10,000 Syrian refugees from camps in the Middle East before the end of the year and 15,000 more in the first two months of 2016.

The state government has cut off funding for a Perth Aboriginal children's ear clinic, despite its rating of 'outstanding' in an independent review.

But despite having no problem identified with the performance of Telethon Speech and Hearing's Ear Health program, its two Perth staff members told media on Sunday they had only a fortnight ago received an email saying their funding would be cut off with no explanation offered, they said.

Thousands protest in London against Syria air-strike plans [RTE - 28/11/15]:
Around 4,000 people joined a protest in London today against Britain potentially joining air strikes against the Islamic State group in Syria.
Parliament is expected to vote on the issue next week after Prime Minister David Cameron pushed MPs to back the move in the wake of this month's Paris attacks.
The demonstration was organised by the Stop The War Coalition protest movement.
Its chairman Andrew Murray urged demonstrators to "stand behind" Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the main opposition Labour party and a former Stop the War Coalition chairman, in opposing air strikes.
"This is a conflict that cannot and will not be solved by bombing," Mr Murray told the crowd.
One demonstrator, 65-year-old John Offen, said he and others were worried about a "lack of planning" in the proposed military action.
"We've had adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan," he added, referring to Britain's role in previous conflicts. "We've destabilised all these countries."
Actor Mark Rylance and musician Brian Eno handed a letter in to Downing Street urging Mr Cameron not to join the international air strikes.
"I don't think this is the way to support our friends in France," Mr Rylance, star of 'Wolf Hall and 'Bridge of Spies', told reporters. "We've tried this way before."
Britain is already involved in air strikes against IS jihadists in Iraq but has not so far taken part in bombing the group's positions in Syria.
Mr Cameron's previous government suffered a humiliating defeat in 2013 over military action against the Assad regime and did not push joining air strikes in Syria to a vote last year, amid resistance from Labour.
Mr Corbyn is facing deep splits in his party over the looming vote.
He opposes air strikes while many of his MPs are in favour and he must decide imminently whether to let individual lawmakers vote with their consciences or try and force them to oppose it.

The National Seamen’s Federation (PNO) announced a 24-hour nationwide seamen’s strike next week on Thursday, during which no ships will set sail from ports around the country.

The union said the strike was being called in response to the dismantling of the NAT seamen’s pension fund, the reduction of crew positions on passenger ships, pension cuts, rising unemployment and increasing black employment in the sector.

Suspect in Colorado clinic shooting had past brushes with the law [Reuters - 28/11/15]:
... The shooting was believed to be the first fatal attack at an abortion provider in the United States in six years, although it was not known if the attack was related to the clinic's abortion services. The Colorado Springs center has been repeatedly targeted for protests by anti-abortion activists. It was not immediately clear if Dear had retained an attorney.
An online court record search in South Carolina did not immediately show records of any criminal convictions for Dear, but law enforcement officers were called in on several occasions after complaints about him. He was born in South Carolina and lived in Walterboro during the 1990s and early 2000s.
He was married in 1995 to Pam Dear and records of his contact with sheriff's deputies show he had a son, Taylor Dear.
According to incident reports provided by the Colleton County Sheriff's Office, Dear's wife called police and accused him of assaulting her in 1997 at their home.
She said he pushed her and shoved her to the floor, but declined to file charges, according to the sheriff deputy's report. In 2002 he was accused by a neighbor of shooting the neighbor's dog with a pellet gun, and that same year he was arrested on accusation of hiding in the bushes at his neighbor's house and leering her and making unwanted advances.
Court records show he was charged with peeping to invade someone's privacy in that case, but the charge was dismissed by a judge and a restraining order was issued against him.
The Colleton County Sheriff's Office also said he was arrested for animal cruelty in 2003 but no court record was available online for that case.
Dear, who most recently was living in the small community of Hartsel, Colorado, about 60 miles (100 km) west of Colorado Springs, had moved there from the rural Swannanoa-Black Mountain area of western North Carolina. Records showed that Dear purchased an isolated property in rural Hartsel for $6,000 in October of 2014.
Dear was still living in Swannanoa in July 2014, according to the Buncombe County Sheriffs Office, which said he was issued a civil citation at that time for allowing his dogs to run at large.
Court records in North Carolina were not searchable online. Friday's attack was the latest in a series of mass shootings around the country that have galvanized supporters of tighter gun control.
It is a polarizing issue in the United States, where the right to bear arms is enshrined in the Constitution.
Expressing frustration, President Barack Obama said the United States needs to make it harder for criminals and the mentally unstable to get guns, a theme that he has sounded repeatedly.
