Cambodian environmental activists who had refugee status INSTANTLY APPROVED by UNHCR Thailand decide to return home [Cambodia Daily - 19/8/16]

... The brothers now say they are discussing their situation with their lawyer and hope to return to Cambodia as soon as possible.

They are also applying for visas to travel to the United States to speak about the effects of the Don Sahong dam, Hout said.

But the men’s Minnesota-based lawyer, Paul Lelli, says he did not think it was prudent for the activists to return to Cambodia.

“I do not think that they would be safe in Cambodia because of the recent events and their involvement,” Lelli said.

Still, he said the men are free to return to Cambodia whenever they want despite the danger and added that he didn’t possess any specific information about threats.

“The main thing is that their voice continues to be heard, whether it’s from the moon, from the United States, or from another country,” Lelli said.

UNHCR declined to comment on the specifics of the case.

“We can’t discuss individual cases because of confidentiality,” said Jennifer Bose, a UNHCR representative in Thailand.

Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak also declined to comment. [Phnom Penh Post - 19/8/16]

The People's Liberation Army Daily did not say exactly where the latest drills took place, describing it only as a "certain part of the Sea of Japan".

Car hits car, tree after Tallebudgera police pursuit [MYGC – 20/8/16]:

A Currumbin Waters man is being questioned after a short Police pursuit saw a car cross onto the wrong side of the road before hitting a car and tree.

Officers began following the vehicle at about 8.45pm on Friday after noticing it speeding south on Tallebudgera Connection Road at Tallebudgera.

They say the driver failed to stop and as the car continued at excessive speed, police called off the chase, deactivating lights and sirens.

Further along Tallebudgera Connection Road the car has crossed to the wrong side of the road and collided with another car.

It then lost control and hit a tree.
