Video surfaced Friday showing a police officer punching a handcuffed woman in her face in Cleveland.

The video shows plain-clothes officers in bulletproof vests with the word "police" on the back holding 21-year-old Ciara Perez Rodriguez, with her hands cuffed behind her back, against the back of a police car.

The punch comes at the 11-second mark in the video embedded in this post.

The woman appears to say something to one of the officers, and another officer slugs her in the face.

Rodriguez is charged with assault on a police officer, according to Cleveland Municipal Court records.

Family members said she is scheduled to appear in court Saturday morning.

Rodriguez suffered neck and arm injuries, her aunt Milagros Montano said. [ - 12/8/16]

.. I wonder, though, about the former government’s people swap with Malaysia.

The 800 boat people that could have been sent to Malaysia was less than a months’ intake, even then.

I doubt it would have worked. Still, letting it stand would have been an acknowledgment of the government-of-the-day’s mandate to do the best it could, by its own lights, to meet our nation’s challenges.

It would have been a step back from the hyper-partisanship that now poisons our public life.

Video shows LAPD handcuffing teen after fatal shooting [Democracy Now - 12/8/16]

In news from Florida, more information has come to light about the police officer who fatally shot a 73-year-old retired librarian during a police training exercise earlier this week.

The woman, Mary Knowlton, had volunteered to participate in a "shoot/don’t shoot" exercise as part of the citizen police academy.

She died after the officer, Lee Coel, accidentally shot her with live ammunition.

Last year, Coel was accused of using excessive force when he let his police dog severely maul a man who was pulled over for biking without a headlight or taillight.

The incident was caught on video.
